Gift Giving on a Budget VII: Fabulous Felt under $5, 11/10/15
Thank you to everyone who participated. 22 students and 8 employees participated resulting in 40 purses that are donated to Deborah’s Place. Here are some pictures from the two sessions.
It’s once again time for our annual Gift Giving on a Budget workshop. For the 7th year, we will get together to learn how to make an inexpensive gift and donate many of the creations to a local community agency.
This year we will learn to make Fabulous Felt Purses for under $5.
Co-sponsored by CCSW Minority Women Concerns subcommittee, CCSW Staff Advocacy subcommittee, Donate by Design student organization, and the UIC Office of Career Services.
Who can attend:
This event is open to everyone! UIC students, staff, and members of the Chicago community are all welcome to join.
RSVP is required by Friday, 11/6/15, to ensure we have enough materials.
What to bring:
UIC Students – $0 per session
UIC Employees – $2 per session
Chicago community members – $5 per session
Everyone please bring a sewing needle. Other items such as buttons, ribbon, lace, felt, fabric, old purses, old clothes with great material, and other decorative items that could be recycled and used in a new way are also helpful. However, if you can’t bring any of these, just bring your imagination & come have some fun while learning something new.
When to show up:
Session 1 is 11:30am – 1:00pm in the Student Services Building, Room 3050 (third floor) at 1200 West Harrison
Session 2 is 5:00pm – 7:00pm in Burnham Hall, Room B6 (lower level) at 828 South Halsted Street in Chicago
Come to one or both sessions, it’s up to you. If you are not familiar with campus please visit https://maps.uic.edu/ and use the search feature to find the building.
Where will the items be donated:
The idea is to make one purse to donate and one purse for yourself (or to give as a gift). During the process of making these purses, the host will ask participants to vote on where the purses will be donated. So those that make the purses will determine which organization receives them.
Why should you join us:
Because this is a fun way to network with others on campus, learn a new skill, and give to the community.
OK enough reading . . . go ahead and RSVP below 🙂
Thank you for your interest. However, registration is now closed.
