Gift Giving on a Budget VII: Handmade Journals

11/14/16 update: Feedback from our contact at Mercy Homes for Boys and Girls. “Thank you so much for the hard work you and the students and staff did on putting together the journals for our kids to enjoy. The colorful designs and inspirational messages will surely put a smile on their faces! We will likely be handing them out around the holidays.”
11/11/16 Update: Thank you to everyone that participated. We made 18 journals which are being donated to Mercy Homes for Boys and Girls this afternoon. Below is an image of the creations.

It’s once again time for our annual Gift Giving on a Budget workshop. This year we will get together to learn how to make simple handmade journals based on this tutorial. Our creations will be donated to Mercy Homes for Boys and Girls which helps youth escape poverty, abuse, and neglect.

Co-sponsored by CCSW Minority Women Concerns subcommittee, Donate by Design student organization, and UIC Career Services.

Who can attend:
This event is open to everyone! UIC students, staff, and members of the Chicago community are all welcome to join.
RSVP is required by Tuesday, 11/8/16, to ensure we have enough materials.

What to bring:
UIC Students/Employees – $0 per session
Chicago community members – $5 per session
Please bring decorative papers, ribbon, lace, felt, fabric, and other FLAT decorative items that could be recycled and used in a new way. However, if you can’t bring any of these, just bring your imagination & come have some fun while learning something new.

When to show up:
5:00pm – 7:00pm in Burnham Hall, Room B6 (lower level) at 828 South Halsted Street in Chicago. If you are not familiar with campus please visit https://maps.uic.edu/ and use the search feature to find the building.

Where will the items be donated:
The idea is to make one journal to donate and one for yourself (or to give as a gift). Donation will be given to Mercy Homes for Boys and Girls which helps youth escape poverty, abuse, and neglect.

Why should you join us:
Because this is a fun way to network with others on campus, learn a new skill, and give to the community.

OK enough reading . . . go ahead and RSVP below 🙂

Thank you for your interest. However, registration is now closed.
