Infrastructure and Technology Accessibility
Faculty, staff, and students have raised concerns about campus physical and digital infrastructure issues. Gathering information from the campus community in a centralized environment and accessing existing institutional data about buildings, technology, and digital spaces is critical in identifying how to best serve our community. We plan to work with appropriate campus units to improve equitable access to vital resources and increase the visibility of the CCSW’s efforts to work towards our mission.

Parenting Students
Students who are pregnant and parenting have always been part of UIC’s campus community but do not receive adequate recognition or support. That is beginning to change with the recent award of the CCAMPIS grant. We plan to continue examining the institution’s policies and practices as they concern the visibility and support for non-traditional students, childcare for students, support for pregnant and postpartum students, and making recommendations about what the institution can do to retain these students and help them to thrive at UIC.
-
Pay Equity
Faculty and staff have raised concerns about pay equity based on race and gender – within and across units at the university – for many years. Access to institutional data is central to identifying where the inequities lay. We plan to work with the Faculty Equity Committee of the UIC Faculty Senate, Academic Professional Advisory Committee, and the Staff Advisory Committee to learn about their strategies for advocating for pay equity and to figure out how we can collaborate with other units on this issue.

Reproductive Justice
We will continue to advocate for expanded access to reproductive health care, information and services for students, faculty and staff at UIC. That work involves engaging UIC faculty whose research and clinical practice focus on reproductive health and justice. We will push for educational campaigns that make students, faculty and staff aware of the resources that they have access to on the campus. We are also aware that the university is required to provide menstrual supplies in the women’s and all-gender restrooms (HB 3215) and access to over-the-counter emergency contraception (SB 1907). With the installation of kiosks in Student Centers East and West, the university is now in compliance with these laws.
