The Student Subcommittee works to improve the status of women at UIC with a primary objective to advise and make recommendations to the Chancellor regarding attitudes, policies, and procedures that affect women students.

In the previous year a maternity leave policy was crafted for graduate students. Our research was presented to the Graduate College for a more coherent Leave of Absence Policy for graduate students. The revised Leave of Absence Policy was approved by the Executive Committee of the Graduate College, and Associate Dean Amy Levant has indicated that the new policy has been in effect since Summer 2005. The Graduate College will begin the process of informing the University community and updating its website
